Using Opal Chat in CMS

⏱ 10 minutes beginner

Writing content from scratch takes time. Opal Chat brings AI assistance directly into the CMS editor so you can generate drafts, rewrite paragraphs, adjust tone, and create images without leaving your workflow. Because Opal understands your content context, it produces suggestions that fit your page structure and brand voice.

  1. Open any page or block in the CMS editor.
  2. Click the Opal icon in the editor toolbar. It appears as a chat bubble icon.
  3. The Opal Chat panel opens on the right side of the editor.
  4. Verify you see a text input field and the Opal branding. If the icon does not appear, ask your administrator to enable Opal for your user role.
  1. Open Opal Chat from the editor toolbar.
  2. Type a prompt describing the content you need. For example: β€œWrite a 150-word introduction for a product page about running shoes.”
  3. Press Enter or click Send.
  4. Review the generated text in the chat panel.
  5. Click Insert to place the text into the active content field, or click Copy to paste it manually.
  6. Edit the inserted text to match your brand voice and add specific details that only you know.

The quality of Opal’s output depends on the quality of your prompt. Follow these guidelines to get better results.

Instead of β€œWrite about our product,” try β€œWrite a 100-word paragraph explaining the three main benefits of our cloud hosting product. Use a professional but approachable tone.”

Tell Opal what the content is for. For example: β€œThis is the hero section of a landing page targeting small business owners who are evaluating CMS platforms for the first time.”

Ask for the format you need: β€œWrite three bullet points, each starting with an action verb, summarizing the key features of our analytics dashboard.”

If the first result is not quite right, follow up with refinement prompts:

  • β€œMake it shorter”
  • β€œUse a more formal tone”
  • β€œAdd a call to action at the end”
  • β€œRewrite this for a technical audience”
TaskExample prompt
Page introduction”Write a 2-sentence introduction for a guide about setting up email notifications. The audience is system administrators.”
Meta description”Write a 155-character meta description for a page about content modeling best practices.”
Call to action”Write 3 variations of a CTA button label that encourages users to start a free trial.”
Image alt text”Write descriptive alt text for a screenshot showing a dashboard with three bar charts and a date filter.”
Content rewrite”Rewrite this paragraph in active voice and reduce it to under 50 words: [paste text]β€œ

Opal Chat can create images that you insert directly into your pages.

  1. Open Opal Chat from the editor toolbar.
  2. Type an image generation prompt. For example: β€œGenerate a hero banner image showing a modern office workspace with warm lighting, 16:9 aspect ratio.”
  3. Wait for Opal to generate the image. This typically takes 10-15 seconds.
  4. Review the generated image in the chat panel.
  5. Click Insert into Media Library to save the image and insert it into the active image field.
  6. Add alt text and a title to the image in the properties panel.
  • Specify the aspect ratio (16:9, 1:1, 4:3) to match your layout requirements.
  • Describe the style you want: β€œflat illustration,” β€œphotorealistic,” β€œminimalist.”
  • Include color preferences if they need to match your brand palette.
  • Avoid requesting images with text in them. AI-generated text in images is often inaccurate.

Keep these limitations in mind when using Opal Chat for content creation.

  • Accuracy: Opal generates plausible text, but it may include incorrect facts. Always verify claims, statistics, and technical details before publishing.
  • Brand voice: Opal approximates your tone but does not perfectly replicate brand guidelines. Review and adjust all generated content.
  • Sensitive content: Opal has built-in content safety filters. It may decline to generate certain types of content.
  • Image quality: Generated images work well for placeholders and general illustrations. For product photos or brand-specific imagery, use your own photography.
  • Content ownership: Content generated by Opal is owned by your organization. You can use, modify, and publish it without attribution.
  • Context window: Opal Chat within the CMS editor works with the content of the current page. It does not have access to your entire site content.
