The Solutions Architect role is for people who design how Optimizely fits into a broader technology landscape. You might be a platform architect planning a multi-product implementation, a pre-sales engineer scoping technical requirements, or a technical lead responsible for integration patterns across CMS, commerce, data, and experimentation layers. You think in systems, not individual features.

Solutions Architect exams focus on integration patterns, system design, and architectural trade-offs. You are expected to demonstrate:

  • System design β€” Designing end-to-end architectures that combine multiple Optimizely products with external systems.
  • Integration patterns β€” Selecting the right integration approach (webhooks, REST APIs, Graph, SDK, event-driven) for each scenario.
  • Scalability and performance β€” Understanding caching strategies, CDN configuration, and load patterns across CMS and commerce.
  • Security and compliance β€” Applying authentication patterns, data residency requirements, and access control models.
  • Migration planning β€” Designing migration paths between CMS PaaS and CMS SaaS, or from competitor platforms to Optimizely.

Code tasks at Core and Advanced tiers require you to write integration code, API queries, or architectural diagrams (as structured text).

Solutions Architects have access to all tiers across all tracks. The Advanced tier tests your ability to design systems that handle edge cases, failure modes, and complex multi-product scenarios.

  1. Start with CMS SaaS Foundation and CMS PaaS Foundation β€” Understanding both deployment models is essential for architectural decisions.
  2. Add Graph Foundation β€” Content delivery architecture is a core competency.
  3. Progress to CMS Core (SaaS or PaaS) β€” Deepen your knowledge of the platform you deploy most.
  4. Add ODP Foundation and Commerce Foundation β€” Broaden your understanding of the data and commerce layers.
  5. Pursue Advanced certifications β€” Target Advanced in the 2-3 tracks most relevant to your practice.
  • Study integration patterns in the learning paths β€” API reference documentation alone is not sufficient.
  • Practice designing architectures on paper before taking Core or Advanced exams.
  • Review the architectural decision records and patterns in the recipes section of the documentation portal.
  • Advanced exams require 30+ hours of preparation and significant project experience.
