Practitioner Certification Role
Who this role is for
Section titled βWho this role is forβThe Practitioner role is designed for people who use Optimizely products as part of their daily work. You might be a marketer launching campaigns, a content editor managing pages in the CMS, or a merchandiser configuring product catalogs. You do not need to write code or design system architecture β your strength is knowing how to get things done inside the platform.
What Practitioner exams test
Section titled βWhat Practitioner exams testβPractitioner exams focus on day-to-day platform usage. You are expected to demonstrate:
- Navigation and workflow β Finding features, understanding the editorial workflow, and completing tasks efficiently.
- Configuration β Setting up campaigns, content types, product catalogs, or experiments using the platform UI.
- Best practices β Knowing when to use a particular feature and understanding its impact on the end-user experience.
- Troubleshooting β Identifying why something is not working as expected and knowing where to look for answers.
Exams use scenario-based multiple-choice questions. At the Core tier, you also complete guided configuration tasks in a sandboxed environment and write short explanations of your decisions.

Practitioner certifications are available at Foundation and Core tiers. The Advanced tier is reserved for roles that require deeper technical or strategic expertise.
Recommended learning path
Section titled βRecommended learning pathβ- Start with CMS SaaS Foundation or CMS PaaS Foundation β Content management is the most common starting point for Practitioners. Choose the track that matches your organizationβs deployment model.
- Add Web Experimentation Foundation β Understanding experimentation helps you create better content by measuring what works.
- Progress to Core in your primary track β Deepen your skills in the product you use most.
- Expand to a second Core certification β Earning two Core certifications qualifies you for the Champion meta-credential.
Preparing for exams
Section titled βPreparing for examsβ- Complete the self-paced learning path for your chosen track and tier.
- Practice in a sandbox environment β the certification portal provides one for every track.
- Review the exam domain weightings on the track overview page.
- Foundation exams require 4-6 hours of preparation. Core exams require 12-20 hours including hands-on practice.
